Child Development

Key Person Approach

Each practitioner working at the Pre-School will assume responsibility for a group of children.  Your child’s key person will ensure that the settling in process is as smooth and easy as possible for both you and your child. Your key person will be available throughout the duration of your settling to answer any questions that you may have.

The key person will develop an excellent relationship with the children in their care, getting to know them very well.  Given that we have a small team of practitioners we aim for the children to develop relationships with the whole team to ensure that any absence of your child’s key person does not cause unnecessary stress for you and your child.

Curriculum

Hampton Magna Pre-school uses the Early Years Foundation Stage to monitor children’s learning. This is a combined curriculum catering for children from 0 – 5 years.  All children will develop and progress at their own pace and activities can be tailored to meet the individual needs of all children – an underlying principle of its implementation.

It is designed to offer all children a rich and stimulating environment through a play based approach, which provides opportunities for both child, and adult initiated learning experiences. The Early Years Foundation Stage will be supported across the Pre-School with each child having their own online Learning Journal to include observations and photographs of how the children are achieving and progressing. Parents and carers are able to log in and look at this anytime and we welcome parents/carers to add comments and children’s achievements at home.

The 7 identified learning areas from the Early Years Foundation Stage are;

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design
